Video Review Article Week 15

1.) Greenberg on Art Criticism: An interview by T.J. Clark: concepts: Interview by T.J. Clark in 1981. Greenberg believed that writing about visual arts was much harder than writing about music or literature. Art critics Ruskin, and Degaro used their prejudices to describe art. Greenberg feels that the best art in the last 50 years is predominately abstract. Art critics must involve some sort of argument about the basis of their critics judgment.
An Introduction to the Italian Renaissance (Giorgio Vasari): concepts: the late 1560’s Florence, Italy nearing end of Renaissance was marked by a renewed enthusiasm. George Vasari wrote the Lives of the Artists, a important biography of artists such as Michelangelo. Ancient Romans create art from natural beauty and after years of stability the barbarians ran over the city destroying art. Vasari believes that Giotto’s discovered revived the realistic style of the Romans through his perspective and ways of creating art. Nudes reflect the beauty of human form. David created by Michelangelo represents a powerful symbol for the republic.
2.) Yes, these films related to the creation of my Art Criticism project, because you cant critique art based off of personal preferences. It is important to discuses and try to interpret the different works of art rather than simply calling it beautiful because you think it is pretty.
3.) I liked the films, the two films that I watched were short and straight to the point. The interview was sort of hard to understand but I liked the second film, and thought Vasari explained his thoughts very well.
